The RNCYC is a registered RYA Training Centre and runs courses in dinghies, keelboats, powerboats, and on shore for both adults and children. The RYA qualifications framework is internationally recognised and viewed as the leading qualifications in recreational sailing.

As an RYA Training Centre we are inspected annually to make sure that the quality of our tuition remains high.

RYA Youth Stage 1 & 2
Prerequisite: No experience necessary (8 years +)
Duration: 5 days
Cost: £320
Description: This course provides an introduction to the parts of the boat and the basic principles of how to get a boat sailing. Then goes on to develop the sailing skills needed to sail around a course tacking, gybing and controlling boat speed.
RYA Youth Stage 3
Prerequisite: RYA Youth Stage 2 certificate (or equivalent experience) (8 years +)
Duration: 5 days

Description: This course will build your confidence and develop the skills needed to sail in different directions in moderate conditions.
RYA Youth Stage 4
Prerequisite: RYA Youth Stage 3 certificate (or equivalent experience) (8 years +)
Duration: 5 days
Cost: £320
Description: This course will teach you how to sail a double-handed boat as crew or helm and solve a variety of problems afloat.
Summer Fun Sailing
Prerequisite: RYA Youth Stage 2 certificate (or equivalent experience) (8 years +)
Duration: 5 days
Cost: £320
Description: This week long sailing activity will enable sailors to build their confidence and get more time on the water. They may be sailing on a variety of boats in mixed ability groups, going on adventures, exploring the local environment and improving their sailing all at once! Depending on experience, it might also cover some seamanship skills, racing and use of spinnakers.
RYA National Sailing Scheme Level 1/2
Prerequisite: None necessary - certificates awarded will be based on individual experience and progress. (16 years +)
Duration: 2 day
Cost: £180
Description: This course will cater for both complete beginners and intermediate sailors. It will cover how to sail in all directions, launching and recovery. It will also build your confidence and enable you to gain the skills needed to sail and make decisions in good conditions.
Intro to Dinghy Racing
Prerequisite: RYA Youth Stage 3 or National Sailing Scheme Level 2 certificate (or equivalent experience) (8 years +)
Duration: 2 days

Description: A course for competent sailors, wishing to start racing. Build your confidence and general racing knowledge by learning the skills needed to enter and compete in a race. This course would also suit someone with a small amount of racing experience.
Improvers Dinghy Racing
Prerequisite: Prior racing experience. (10 years +)
Duration: 1 day
Cost: £70
Description: This course is designed for those with some racing experience who want to improve. It will focus on improving your boat handling, speed and help you develop strategic plans based on the conditions.
RYA Powerboat Level 2
Prerequisite: No experience necessary (16 years +)
Duration: 2 days
Cost: £250
Description: This course will enable you to get to grips with the basics and learn how to master the waves with this two-day entry level course. It provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver. It aims to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats and works on a low ratio of students to instructors to ensure you get plenty of hands on practice. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. You can convert this to the International Certificate of Competence through the RYA.
