FOR SALE - Half shares in One Design Sonars

The Sonar was designed by Bruce Kirby and is a versatile day racing boat with excellent handling in all weather conditions making it a comfortable and confidence boosting starting point for yacht sailing and racing. It is also well known as an excellent training yacht and is used extendively for match and team racing.

There is a fleet of 9 One Design Sonars at the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club, all of which are part owned by the Club itself.  Each yacht is also half-owned by individuals or partnerships and there are now half shares for sale in at least 3 yachts.

Each individual/partnership will be free to use their boat for day-sailing or racing at all times, except when in use for specific events at the RNCYC.  Racing is available for owners on Tuesday evenings and the class at the Club also aims to participate in a number of local regattas on the East Patch each season.  The specific club events when the boats are in use take up 4-5 weekends and occasional evenings throughout the season.  These events tend to be team or match racing, and associated training days.

In return for maintaining the boats in racing condition and the costs of winter hoists/storage, the Club provides each yacht with a mooring, launch service and racing insurance.

This is an excellent and affordable opportunity to own a small day racing yacht, especially if done as a partnership as many boats are just now.  There are also great opportunities to get involved with the team and match racing events held using the yachts at RNCYC and join the team in events in the UK, Europe and USA.  More information on the boats and their design can be found at the International Sonar Class website here .

The yachts available are “Prelude” and “Blue House” and "Nona", in addition, the owner of Arrow is interested in a partnership or may also sell. A few photographs are attached and offers are invited for the half shares.  Prospective owners will have to join, or already be members of, the RNCYC.  Membership costs can be found  here  and it should be noted that these are significantly reduced for those under 31.

To view the yachts and for more details please contact Alan Yendell, Sonar Class Owners Rep via the club office.
